The Newham Casino

Although our area is the third most deprived borough in Britain, the Labour government proposes to put London's biggest casino right here in our neighbourhood.
Newham is just one of eight areas in the UK to receive a licence for a "large" casino. The licence permits it to be up to 1,000 square feet in area, with up to 150 slot machines and a maximum jackpot of £4,000.
The Christian Peoples Alliance is leading the opposition to the idea because the evidence says it will do nothing good for our local community. If built it will be a disaster for the lives of many people. A major survey of local people found that it isn't wanted. But a Council appointed 'independent commission' unsurprisingly recommended it is built.
Your Christian Peoples Alliance councillors on Newham Council have produced a hard-hitting 16 page report looking at the impact of the casino on issues such as employment, crime, health and community damage. It cites evidence from home and abroad that those most likely to suffer from a casino will be the vulnerable and disadvantaged in Newham, without compensating regeneration benefits.
